What is a sideout in volleyball?

A sideout in volleyball occurs when the serving team fails to score a point or wins a rally, resulting in the ball and the serve being given to the opposing team.

In other words, a sideout is an opportunity for the team that was originally receiving to become the serving team. This can happen after the serving team commits a fault, such as hitting the ball out of bounds, failing to return the ball over the net, or violating a rule.

A sideout does not result in a point being scored, but it can shift the momentum of the game and give the receiving team a chance to earn points and potentially win the set or match.
